Job Purpose/Overview

This role exists to deliver improved efficiency to the R&D organization through the systematic capture and transfer of functional and technical knowledge. Currently there are a variety of practice of how knowledge is captured and transferred within R&D and given the pace of innovation and changing business world, it is imperative that Mars Wrigley practice disciplined knowledge management.

This role is accountable for creating and sustaining a segment-wide R&D knowledge management strategy and ecosystem. It requires building a comprehensive landscape of the current state of knowledge management practices and systems to protect the knowledge generated and improve the ease of transfer of key data or information to support our Mars Wrigley operating structure.

Key Responsibilities

KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT: Develop a global program management infrastructure to support the development of a knowledge management strategy and ecosystem within Mars Wrigley Confectionery. Identify the formal and informal network across Mars Wrigley, Mars IS, Corporate and Cross-segment teams to support the set-up, development and on-going support required for the Knowledge Management. Align the R&D leadership team to the program scope, deliverables and timing.
KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT: Generate a landscape of the current knowledge management practices across the global and regional R&D teams. Iterate and design a harmonized strategy to bring our KM practices together considering both the current operating model and future needs of the business. Design the ecosystem inclusive of the structural needs (systems, tools, functionality) and the social motivation (senior leadership endorsement, peer advocates) required to ensure the longevity of the proposed KM strategy.
DEPLOY CHANGE MANAGEMENT: Calculate and plan the required change management support needed to deploy and sustain the new practices around knowledge management within the segment. Leverage both internal and external resources to design the change management approach to ensure the long-term success of the knowledge management ecosystem.

Context and Scope

This role is member of the global R&D Program Management team and serves as a business strategy partner to key R&D functional teams on the ever present need to balance program delivery and prioritization of global initiatives.
This role will bring consistency to the team through establishing collaborative ways of working and applying situationally appropriate tools (e.g. meeting notes templates, action trackers, timelines, charters, presentation templates, meeting facilitation guides, reporting dashboards, stakeholder communication documents, etc.).
The PMO role is focused on the pursuit of continuous improvement of project management activities to maximize the team’s inputs/outputs to achieve our business objectives faster.
A Program Lead plays a critical role to ensure that team tacit knowledge is made explicit through the use of business tools for knowledge sharing (SharePoint, One Drive, One Note, etc.) and fosters a team culture of knowledge sharing to maintain business continuity in an environment of constant change.
This role will also be called upon to contribute expertise and program management to other ‘added value’ global Confectionery R&D initiatives to ensure the success of the global R&D organization.

Job Specifications/Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in business, food science, marketing or other closely related field
10 years professional experience working in a business environment
5 years leading and managing global programs preferably in Science, Engineering or Product Development area.


Must have excellence in project management with strong influencing skills to be able to get work done through others.
Experience managing cross-functional and globally dispersed teams.
Comfort in navigating systems and processes to effectively drive program of program deliverables and activities.
Understanding and experience initiating continuous improvements and pursuit of improved ways of working, communication and project management.
Understanding of risk assessment and contingency planning.
Effective communication skills including:
Synthesizing qualitative updates across various teams into clear and concise reports
Ability to customize message to suit the audience from peers through senior management
Effective stakeholder management to ensure program updates are cascaded accordingly
Strong organization skills, thoughtful decision making and ability to think on your feet
